Christian Aid awarded Investing in Volunteers

Volunteering England is delighted to welcome Christian Aid to the prestigious Investing in Volunteers achievers club. The charity which has been working towards the accreditation for the last year is the first national development charity to achieve the award.

Christian Aid found working towards the award extremely beneficial as it provided them with a tool to bring about changes that they wanted to put in place any.

They have implemented a number of new procedures including promoting opportunities more widely to attract a greater diversity of volunteers, developing training courses to enable volunteers to be more effective in their roles and introducing feedback mechanisms to allow volunteers to share their ideas and views.

Marie Raffay, Volunteering Manager at Christian Aid said: “Achieving the Investing in Volunteers standard has been of enormous benefit to Christian Aid.We are now much more confident about our procedures and are able to offer our volunteers more consistent support. The profile of volunteering has grown considerably within our organisation and we have become much more aware of the potential that our volunteers offer”

Tony Edwards, Director of Trading and Enterprise at Volunteering England said: “We’re always pleased to hear that organisations value their volunteers and choosing to work towards the IiV accreditation is a real illustration of this commitment.”

“It’s great that this announcement comes at the same time as the 25th Volunteers Week.Volunteer Week is a week of celebrations and events which recognise and reward the efforts of volunteers across the UK, whilst opening up volunteering opportunities to potential recruits.”
