Why did you decide to go for Investing in Volunteers?

We wanted to make sure that we were giving our volunteers the best experience possible, and to make sure that we were doing everything correctly as we really value our volunteers and the difference they make to the Trust.

What benefits have you found from working towards Investing in Volunteers?

It has been really useful for us to go through Investors in volunteer indicators and for us to evaluate how we meet them and develop the areas that we initially did not fully meet. The feedback we received from the assessment has also been invaluable and the community and volunteering working group have taken this on board.

Tell us about your experience of the assessment process in your organisation.

The assessment process was a positive experience for the whole Trust and for our volunteers who were involved.

5 Practical tips you would give another organisation working towards Investing in Volunteers

  • Involve your volunteers and as many people from different areas of your organisation as possible.
  • Have a steering group who work together on the assessment process.
  • Plan a realistic timetable for your organisation to complete each stage of the process.
  • Use the feedback your assessor gives us.
  • Organise the final assessment as soon as the assessor has selected whom they would like to meet, and also contact the reserves the assessor has selected in case the first choices are unable to make the final assessment day.
