Why did you decide to go for Investing in Volunteers?

An incentive through a scheme with City of Edinburgh Council meant it was affordable – we would not have been able to afford it without the Council’s subsidy, also we are hoping it might help attract volunteers & funding

What benefits have you found from working towards Investing in Volunteers?

It was a good opportunity to evaluate our procedures and examine whether they are all still working effectively.

5 Practical tips you would give another organisation working towards Investing in Volunteers

  • I think it is essential that one person is responsible overall for overseeing the process and for making sure the process keeps moving along.
  • Try to keep things moving along – sometimes it can feel like there is quite a long time between the various stages – always keep IiV on the agenda
  • Involve everyone – it will save a lot of time running around looking for things. A steering group is a great idea for drawing in ideas for the development plan.

What training/learning did you require to help you meet the standards and where did you source it ? e.g.VDS, local Volunteer Centre, local college
