What have been the overall benefits of achieving/renewing the IiV accreditation?
Our organisation has gone through a big transition over the past few years. We had held IiV for 4 years prior to this renewal and at both assessment stages volunteering was delivered on a much smaller scale; we had two roles on offer for volunteers who supported specific areas of work. During the last 2 years Motiv8 has invested a lot of time, energy and resources into changing the way we utilise and support volunteers. Volunteers are now actively involved across all areas of our work in many roles; from administration and social media through to school work, 1-1 mentoring and bicycle maintenance. IiV has always been something we have strived to achieve, and that's very much the case this time around - it is a seal of approval and recognition of all the hard work that has been carried out over the past 2 years.
Please provide a quote that sums up the IiV experience for your organisation
The process is a fantastic way to assess and review how you're doing as an organisation. There are many areas to consider when working with volunteers and going through the process allows you to really take stock of what you have been doing and perhaps what you might like to consider doing or working on.
What tips would you give to other organisations working towards Investing in Volunteers?
- The quality standard should not be what you strive for, but rather it should be seen as a benchmark that we achieve and surpass.
- Assessors are valuable assets - use them to your advantage.
- There are lots of useful resources on-line; check them out!
- Consider who needs to be involved in the process - who can add value in your organisation and who can support in decision making.
