Lead Scotland

Name of Organisation

Lead Scotland

Why did you decide to go for Investing in Volunteers?

1.We have already been through the process (2005) and had found it a very useful process. Stakeholders were keen to pursue the award again

2.It allowed us to measure our performance against a national standard

3.Visible demonstration of our commitment to ongoing volunteer development

4.We want new volunteers to see the Standard and know we have thought long and hard about how we involve volunteers

5.We want existing volunteers to be celebrated and to feel proud of being involved with Lead Scotland.

What benefits have you found from working towards Investing in Volunteers?

We were able to involve volunteers throughout the process, because the award framework was clear and easy to follow.

Staff and volunteers at all levels worked purposely together on a steering group leading the way (different members to last time). It increased everyone’s motivation.

Tell us about your experience of the assessment process in your organisation.

The assessment process was helpfully contained to a specific timeframe. The assessors were prompt to respond, efficient and put everyone at ease.

5 Practical tips you would give another organisation working towards Investing in Volunteers

·Creating a steering group was really helpful, with one person taking the lead.We met twice and had other contact by group email.Lots of helpful and different perspectives

·Share the process beyond the steering group so that everyone knows what is going on.We wrote to every volunteer telling them why we were doing it, how it was being funded, the assessment process, etc.

·Celebrate the achievements as well as working out what gaps have to be addressed

·Promote your good practice so that others can learn from you
