Information & Welfare

Cardinal Hume Centre

Name of Organisation

Cardinal Hume Centre

Why did you decide to go for Investing in Volunteers?

The Centre has always used volunteers but wanted to expand the volunteer base and establish a centralised volunteer programme.

What benefits have you found from working towards Investing in Volunteers?

It gave the review structure and criteria for the IIV Steering Group to work towards.

Tell us about your experience of the assessment process in your organisation.

We enjoyed the assessment day. It enabled people who had been really involved in the process to tell someone what we had achieved and it’s helpful to have an external person to give you feedback on your work.

5 Practical tips you would give another organisation working towards Investing in Volunteers

  • Set up a steering group of people from key areas of your organisation.
  • Invite a senior member or trustee to give it clout.
  • Keep everyone informed of your progression so that when you do achieve it, people can feel a part of it.
  • Once achieved, you have a steering group who will want to continue upholding best practice across your organisation.
