What is the role of our Investing in Volunteers Advisor?
In Wales the introductory meeting is likely to take the form of a ‘Health Check’ (see below). In this case both your Advisor and an Assessor will normally be present. The Assessor writes up a Health Check report which summarises what you already have in place and gives clear guidance on the development work required to meet the standard. This saves you from having to produce a written self assessment yourself (although you will need to review and update the report as you progress).
In this case your Advisor will then support you to implement the recommendations of the Health Check and work toward achieving the Investing in Volunteers Standard.
The key areas to consider in this case are:
• Are you clear about the Investing in Volunteers process, including the role of the Advisor and Assessor?
• Do you have access to the website, using your username and password?
• How can you ensure the support and commitment of the whole organisation?
• How will you go about implementing the recommendations in the Health Check and reviewing and documenting your progress?
• Are you confident about what kind of evidence to gather, in support of the different practices?
• Have you agreed the next step with your Advisor, including a target date?
• Do you know how to contact you Advisor if necessary and what other sources of support are available?
After the Health Check meeting you will keep in contact with your Advisor mainly through email and by telephone. Additional visits can be made – these would normally incur an extra charge.
Your advisor will offer critical feedback on your development plan and progress. He/she will work with you in a supportive and collaborative way - but cannot do the work for you! He/she may help to identify any additional sources of advice and support required.
NB Your Advisor cannot be held responsible for any adverse judgements which are subsequently made at assessment. The Advisor will generally accept your word concerning the practices and documents you have in place, whereas the Assessor will seek independent evidence at the assessment, including the view of volunteers, and can reach a different conclusion on specific matter.

• Ydych chi’n glir ynglŷn â’r broses Buddsoddi mewn Gwirfoddolwyr, yn cynnwys rôl y Cynghorydd a’r Asesydd?

• Sut gallwch chi sicrhau cefnogaeth ac ymrwymiad y sefydliad drwyddo draw?
• Sut y byddwch yn mynd ati i roi argymhellion yr Archwiliad Iechyd ar waith ac adolygu a dogfennu eich datblygiad?

Bydd eich Cynghorydd yn cynnig adborth beirniadol ar eich cynllunj datblygu a'ch cynydd. Bydd ef/hi yn gweithio gyda chi mewn ffordd gefnogol a chydweithredol – ond ni all wneud y gwaith drosoch! Efallai y gwnaiff helpu i ganfod unrhyw ffynonellau cyngor a chymorth ychwanegol sy’n ofynnol, er enghraifft drwy gysylltu â’ch Canolfan Wirfoddoli leol.
