The Mentor Ring

Published 16 February 2015
Cardiff charity achieve Quality Award for Volunteering The Mentor Ring (TMR) has recently achieved the Investing in Volunteers quality standard in recognition of the excellent work they do with volunteers.

Operational Director, Sujatha Thaladi said: ‘Getting this award is a reflection on the quality of our services and how we attract, retain and value our volunteers. It is an achievement not just for TMR but for our volunteers’.

‘Without them, we wouldn’t be able to deliver the range of services we provide to local communities.’

Investing in Volunteers is the UK quality standard for organisations involving volunteers.   It aims to improve the quality of volunteering experience for volunteers and to encourage organisations to better recognise the enormous contribution made by volunteers.  Investing in Volunteers is managed in Wales by Wales Council for Voluntary Action.

The Mentor Ring was assessed against a range of best practice standards and proved to excel in all aspects of working with its volunteers.

A volunteer from The Mentor Ring, Isabel McDougall- Cardiff Metropolitan University: ‘As a volunteer it is a great honour to be a part of the organisation, the charity has provided excellent prospects, allowing me to meet certain personal goals and take parts in all aspects of the charity I wish to. This quality standard mark helps to reinforce the existing level of care, nurture, mentoring, and guidance that The Mentor Ring provides to its volunteers and individuals within its community. I am very proud to be a part of an organisation who not only values me as a volunteer and helps to mentor vulnerable individuals, but also has been able to achieve such a quality mark.’

The Mentor Ring’s mission is to provide one-to-one support and guidance to people of all ages and backgrounds, helping them to overcome significant barriers to social inclusion. The charity helps individuals and communities to tackle their personal challenges – whether it is in health & wellbeing, education, training, employment or settling in the UK.

‘We provide specialist mentoring support with parenting, bereavement, relationships, drugs and alcohol misuse, youth offending, mental health, cultural differences and school truancy,’ said Sujatha.

‘We also organise and coordinate a wide range of physical activities, craft and art workshops, personal development and training courses, primarily for the purpose of social cohesion.’

Our mission is to offer advice, guidance and support to socially and economically disadvantaged people through individual and group mentoring. We aim to provide a service that caters for the whole person by raising standards, confidence and self-esteem – thus creating opportunities and choices that will help individuals and their communities to realise their full potential.

Elusen o Gaerdydd yn cyflawni Safon Ansawdd Gwirfoddoli Mae The Mentor Ring (TMR) yn ddiweddar wedi cyflawni’r safon ansawdd Buddsoddi mewn Gwirfoddolwyr yn gydnabyddiaeth am ei waith rhagorol gyda gwirfoddolwyr.

Dywedodd y Cyfarwyddwr Gweithredol, Sujatha Thaladi: ‘Mae cyflawni’r dyfarniad hwn yn adlewyrchu ansawdd ein gwasanaethau a’r ffordd rydym yn denu, cadw a gwerthfawrogi ein gwirfoddolwyr. Mae’n gamp nid yn unig i TMR ond i’n gwirfoddolwyr’.

‘Hebddyn nhw, ni fydden ni’n gallu cynnal yr ystod o wasanaethau rydym yn eu darparu i gymunedau lleol.’

Buddsoddi mewn Gwirfoddolwyr yw safon ansawdd y Deyrnas Unedig ar gyfer mudiadau sy’n cynnwys gwirfoddolwyr. Ei nod yw gwella ansawdd y profiad gwirfoddoli i wirfoddolwyr ac annog mudiadau i roi gwell gydnabyddiaeth i gyfraniad enfawr gwirfoddolwyr. Mae Buddsoddi mewn Gwirfoddolwyr yn cael ei reoli yng Nghymru gan Gyngor Gweithredu Gwirfoddol Cymru (WCVA).

Cafodd The Mentor Ring ei asesu yn erbyn amryw o safonau arferion gorau a gwelwyd ei fod yn disgleirio ym mhob agwedd ar weithio â’i wirfoddolwyr.

Dywedodd un o wirfoddolwyr The Mentor Ring, Isabel McDougall – Prifysgol Metropolitan Caerdydd: ‘Fel gwirfoddolwr, mae bod yn rhan o’r mudiad yn anrhydedd mawr, mae’r elusen wedi darparu cyfleoedd ardderchog, gan fy ngalluogi i gyflawni amcanion personol penodol a chymryd rhan ym mhob rhan o’r elusen rwy’n dymuno. Mae’r nod ansawdd hwn yn helpu i atgyfnerthu’r safon bresennol o ofal, magwraeth, mentora, ac arweiniad y mae The Mentor Ring yn ei darparu i’w wirfoddolwyr ac unigolion yn y gymuned. Rwy’n falch iawn o fod yn rhan o fudiad sydd nid yn unig yn rhoi gwerth mawr arna’ i fel gwirfoddolwr ac yn helpu i fentora unigolion agored i niwed, ond sydd hefyd wedi llwyddo i gyrraedd nod ansawdd o’r fath.’

Cenhadaeth The Mentor Ring yw darparu cymorth ac arweiniad un wrth un i bobl o bob oedran a chefndir, gan eu helpu i oresgyn rhwystrau mawr i gynhwysiant cymdeithasol. Mae’r elusen yn helpu unigolion a chymunedau i fynd i’r afael â’u heriau personol – boed hynny’n heriau iechyd a lles, addysg, hyfforddiant, cyflogaeth neu ymgartrefu yn y Deyrnas Unedig.

‘Rydym yn darparu cymorth mentora arbenigol ar gyfer magu plant, profedigaeth, perthnasau, camddefnyddio cyffuriau ac alcohol, troseddwyr ifanc, iechyd meddwl, gwahaniaethau diwylliannol a thriwanta o’r ysgol,’ meddai Sujatha.

‘Rydym hefyd yn trefnu ac yn cydlynu ystod eang o weithgareddau corfforol, gweithdai celf a chrefft, a chyrsiau datblygu a hyfforddi personol, yn bennaf er mwyn hybu cydlyniant cymdeithasol,’

Ein cenhadaeth yw cynnig cyngor, arweiniad a chymorth i bobl sydd dan anfantais gymdeithasol ac economaidd drwy fentora unigolion ac mewn grwpiau. Rydym yn anelu at gynnig gwasanaeth sy’n darparu ar gyfer y person cyfan drwy godi safonau, hyder a hunanbarch – gan felly greu cyfleoedd a dewisiadau a fydd yn helpu unigolion a’u cymunedau i wireddu eu potensial llawn.
